This panorama is located in an area we call the "restoration area" and was taken during June 2004. At one time, a road ran through this portion of the prairie. In 1977 the area was seeded with tall grass prairie wildflowers and grasses. At the time, there was no local seed source for native plants therefore the seeds were purchased from Illinois. Unfortunately, very few of these seeds germinated. Of those that did, many were not necessarily native to Manitoba’s tall grass prairie including Compass plant (Silphium laciniatum) and Wild quinine (Parthenium integrifolium).
Dominant flora seen in this panorama are Smooth brome (Bromus inermis), Little bluestem (Andropogon scoparius), Big bluestem (Andropogon gerardii), Canada thistle (Cirsium arvense), and Common Vetch (Vicia americana).
